We have a 6 hour drive ahead of us, heading to the South African bush to experience our first safari and to celebrate one year of marriage. It’s been four years, 2 months, and 20 days since you walked into that bar and destroyed me at pool, trash talking through three pitiful games on my part. I hate losing but that was one of my favorite nights of my life because it was the start of us.

This morning, we had a 5:30 am wake up call for our long journey. I slept poorly, and you immediately went down to get coffee for me without being asked, even though you were still waking up yourself and don’t drink coffee.

One example of four years of small selfless actions that mean everything to me. My love for you is breathing, ever expanding, only growing deeper with each year, milestone, and fleeting adversity.

For someone who loves novelty and big dreams, I never feel more at home and at peace than when we’re watching Survivor cuddled up on the couch having a night in.

Marriage is meant to bring out the best in each other, and our potential is only just getting started. I’m here for all of it. Present, happy, embracing the journey, and the fuzzy feeling I get waking up next to you each morning. I love you so much, Suneel. Happy one year ❤️

You can step off the active main street and walk through this peaceful redwood grove where you’re surrounded by beautiful, majestic trees towering over you. It almost feels like a hidden little sanctuary!

🌲 We recently visited Muir Woods National Monument, and it’s always a beautiful escape from the city.

The enormous redwood trees transport you back in time 1,200 years🕰️ and the tallest Coastal Redwood in Muir Woods is 258ft (78.6m)🤯
⠀
Walking through the groves, our necks started to hurt from looking up at the treetops.
⠀
The sheer size of these old-growth trees is breathtaking.
⠀
Do note, though, that the forest draws crowds of people, especially on weekends or in summer during peak season.
⠀
👉Try to visit early or late in the day, during the week, or in winter for the most peaceful experience.

🥾 Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park is my favorite place to hike in Oakland because it feels local 😌

It’s only a few miles from downtown Oakland, but it’s usually less crowded than other Bay Area redwood destinations.

Here are a few more fun facts:

🌿 The park spans 1,833 acres with redwood trees and hikes of varying difficulty.

🌿 Dogs are allowed ($2/day fee if you park at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area).

🌿 There’s FREE parking at the Skyline Gate Staging Area.

🌿 You can see thousands of ladybugs from November to February.
